We're talking about justification by faith and by faith alone. There's nothing we can do to justify ourselves. God shows us his favor through justification. 2 Corinthians 5:21 "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." * My friend struggles with his performance as a Christian and wonders how he can be a Christian with such poor performance. * Matt calls about receiving communion if you have "sin in your heart". Why would a pastor use Psalm 66:18 "If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened" during the Lord's Supper?
