Out of obedience to the law, Mary and Joseph bring the infant Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem to offer a sacrifice. At the temple, they encounter a righteous and devout man, named Simeon, who was “waiting for the consolation of Israel” and had been told by the Holy Spirit that “he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ” (Luke 2:26). In the Spirit, Simeon declares that Jesus is “a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel” (Luke 2:32). Though some 2000 years removed, Simeon’s words remain true today. Jesus is the Light of the World for all people, and we believe, in faith, that many will come to know him personally this Christmas Eve at Woodmen. THEME – EXPECTATION 1.
