500 years ago Martin Luther penned his 95 theses to prompt theological debate on the essential issues of Christianity.
The most important was this question, “How is a person saved?”
Luther was taught salvation was by works.
Of his efforts, he wrote, “I kept the rule so strictly…if I had kept on any longer, I should have killed myself with vigils, prayers, reading and other work.”
But none of his works changed his conviction that he was a doomed sinner.
In desperation, he opened the Bible. He discovered the truth that man is saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.
He wrote, “I felt myself to be reborn and to have gone through open doors into paradise.”
This was the spark that ignited the Protestant Reformation.
It is the truth that will ignite eternal life in you.
