Philippians 4:8. We will be exploring a long forgotten and ancient tradition of contemplative prayer in the Eastern Orthodox Church called hesychasm. It actually dates back to the third century and is based on Jesus' call in the Gospel of Matthew 6:6 that “when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret.” The tradition is the process of withdrawing and retreating to experience God. A practice of prayer marked by deep tranquillity of the spirit intent on contemplating God unceasingly by invoking the name of Jesus. So the theme of this meditation from Philippians 4 is tranquility. Contemplating on the constant and perpetual presence of God.
