The gospels of Matthew and Luke tell us about the facts of Christmas: the star, the shepherds, and the manger. The beginning of the book of John doesn’t talk to us about the facts of Christmas. It doesn’t tell us the story, but it tells us the meaning of the coming of Christ. It tells us the meaning of Christmas. We saw in John 1 that the meaning of the coming of Christ was tied to an incident in the life of Moses. We’re going to now see that the meaning of the coming of Christ is tied to an incident in the life of Jacob. The message of Christmas according to this text is the heavens have been opened for those who have been humbled. This sermon was preached by Rev. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on December 20, 2009. Series "Christmas 2009".
